For those of you for whom a 15 minute nap during work hours is not enough. I took advantage of flex time to sleep as much as I could.
I’m on duty, but I can’t get to sleep…what are the benefits of a nap?
Good night! I’m Saijo.
There are times during the workday when you really want to sleep. I’m sure many of you have experienced strong drowsiness after eating lunch and during the afternoon workday. It’s very annoying, isn’t it? It is hard to concentrate when you are sleepy, and above all, it takes a lot of power to keep persevering. The peak of drowsiness comes twice a day, once at midnight and once in the afternoon, which means that drowsiness is not limited to sleep deprivation.
Sometimes it is recommended to take a short nap during your lunch break in anticipation of sleepiness. This is sometimes called a “power nap.” It’s a good idea to get 15 to 20 minutes of sleep to get drowsy and clear your head.
But I would say.
“Fifteen minutes for a nap…isn’t that enough…?”
Sometimes I just want to sleep as much as I can during my lunch break.
I am a long napper by nature, and 15 or 20 minutes is not enough. Instead of clearing my head and getting my work done, I end up feeling drowsy, and sometimes a stronger than usual drowsiness follows…. On weekends and holidays, I sleep 8 hours a night, and of course, naps are a must! Naps make it somewhat harder to fall asleep at night. I know, I know, I know. But even on weekdays, I like to sleep longer once in a while…you hear that 90 minutes of sleep is good… So I tried sleeping 90 minutes (1.5 hours) and 180 minutes (3 hours), taking a longer lunch break!
Take advantage of flextime and use your own room as a nap room.
Our company, mgn Inc. has a flextime system. We can take advantage of that and take a 90-minute break. We also have morning and evening appointments that cannot be moved, so we sometimes take a longer break in the middle of the day.
I used those times to swing all my energy into sleep!
It has the look of a little nap room with a simple cushion and blanket to lie on in your room. Set an alarm to make sure you wake up and say good night…
If you take a nap during a 90-minute break
I swapped all 90 minutes for a nap. As a result, my head felt much clearer. Tasks that had been difficult to progress due to a loss of concentration or trouble in my head were resolved, and I was able to start the day with a fresh mind.
If you try to take a nap during a 180 minute break
I couldn’t swing all 180 minutes…for a nap (lol)…it was indeed too long and I woke up in the middle of the day. Perhaps because I slept almost as long as I wanted, I felt as if I had just welcomed the next day. I almost forgot for a moment what I was doing because I had just welcomed the next day.
I sleep too much because I have to lie down, they say.
When I actually did sleep, I felt that I had slept somewhat too much. Some information recommending a 15-minute nap may recommend that you sleep in a sitting position, not lying down. Sure, it may be easier to wake up that way. But my body gets all stiff…. It’s difficult to get up when I’m sitting up….
Finally: the real goal is to get sleepy.
Going back to the start here, the ultimate goal is not to take a nap, but to relieve sleepiness…and behind that, there are issues such as inability to concentrate, lack of clarity, mood swings, or to improve performance in the afternoon.
If only a short nap is possible, it is also effective to use napping products to make the previously mentioned “not lying down” as comfortable as possible. We recommend the use of napping pillows, earplugs or eye masks that can reduce noise.
Also, depending on the nature of your duties and work environment, you may not be able to take naps. If it is absolutely difficult to take a short nap, the following measures are available.
Nothing like a nap to overcome afternoon drowsiness. After a good night’s sleep, I came to my senses once again. See you later!
