私は夫と娘3人の5人家族ですが、2年ほど前に黒猫2匹も家族に加わりました！娘たちが小さい頃からずっと犬や猫を飼いたいと言われ続け、私もいつかは飼いたいなと思いながらも、これ以上お世話をする存在が増えることへの決心がつかずに何年も過ぎていったある日、ふと、「子ども達はあと何年この家で過ごすことができるのだろう」と考えて、ペットと一緒に過ごす生活をしようと決心しました。
さて、生後3ヶ月の子猫ちゃんを家族に迎えて約2年がたち、小さかった黒猫たちはすっかり大きくなりました。猫たちがいる環境での私のリモートワークについてお伝えします。
リモートワークに支障はない？猫がいることで困ること
うちの猫たちが過ごす場所は1階のLDKエリアと2階の廊下です。私が仕事をしている場所はLDKエリアにつながっているスペースなので、猫たちが自由に入ってくることができます。そんな環境だと猫たちがPCをイタズラしたり、キーボードを打っているところを邪魔されて仕事にならないのではないかと最初は不安もありましたが、実際にはそんなことはなく、たまにデスク周りへやってきてゴロゴロと甘えてきても、膝の上や隣の椅子でおとなしく寝てくれることがほとんどです。
ただ、活発に走り回っているときに大きな音がして、何かが倒れたり壊したりしたのではないかと気になってしまうことや、お腹が空くとキッチンへ入ってご飯くれアピールをしてくるので、そういう時は確認しに行ったりご飯を準備したりと、作業の途中で手を止めることになってしまいます。
飼い始めたばかりで黒猫たちがまだ小さい子猫だったときは、猫たちの行動が気になってしまう瞬間が多くあったような記憶があり、お客様とリモート会議をする時などはケージに入れていました。最近は落ち着いてきて集中を妨げられるような場面はあまりなくなったなと思います。
1つだけ本当に困ったことは、2匹のうちの1匹がケーブルを噛みちぎってしまうことです。仕事中、猫がPCの横でおとなしく座っていてしばらくたった後にふと見ると、静かに音もたてずケーブルを噛んでいました。気づいたときには噛みちぎられていて使い物にならなくなってしまいました。それからは、猫が噛みそうな場所にあるケーブルにはカバーをつけるようにしています。
リモートワークのお供！猫がいるメリット
普段の生活の中で猫たちがいることはとても幸せで、癒やされる瞬間がたくさんあります。子猫だったときはもちろんですが、大きくなっても可愛さは変わらず寝姿や窓辺て日向ぼっこをしている姿などは見ているだけで自然と笑顔になります。
ペットとのふれあいはオキシトシンが分泌されることによりストレスホルモンであるコルチゾールを減少させ、心の安定やリラックス感を高める役割を果たし、またペットのリラックスした行動を観察することは脳の疲労を回復させ、ストレスを軽減させる効果があるそうです。
リモートワークの合間や休憩中に猫たちと触れ合ったり、ふと集中が切れた時、猫の癒やされる姿を見ることでリフレッシュできるのであれば、仕事をするうえでも良い効果といえそうですね。
キジトラ子猫を迎えて猫3匹と共にお仕事中！
実はつい3ヶ月ほど前キジトラの子猫が我が家にやってきました。これで黒猫2匹、キジトラ1匹と共にリモートワークをする日々となったわけですが、今はちょっとドタバタ中です。まだ子猫なので、黒猫たちが子猫だったときと同じように家の中を走り回っていて、さらに黒猫たちより活発なので思わぬところのモノが壊されたり、イタズラされたりしています。これももう少し経てば壊されないように対策したり、猫が落ち着いてきたりして解決するだろうと思いますが…。
まとめ：猫たちがいる環境はとても幸せ
猫たちにも私たち人間にもストレスがないような対策をして環境を整えることが必要ですが、私にとっては猫の隣でリモートワークができることはメンタルヘルスに良い影響を与えてくれていると感じています。犬や猫などペットに日々癒やされながら心を安定させて、お仕事にも集中して取り組めるとよいのではないでしょうか。

My cats spend most of their time in the LDK area on the first floor and the hallway on the second floor. I work in a space connected to the LDK area, so the cats are free to come in. At first, I was worried that the cats might play tricks on my PC or disturb me while I am typing on the keyboard, making it difficult for me to work. In fact, they are not like that at all.
However, when I hear a loud noise while he is actively running around, I worry that something might have fallen or broken, and when he is hungry, he goes into the kitchen and appeals for food. I have to stop in the middle of my work to check and prepare food.
When I first started keeping the cats and they were still small kittens, I remember that there were many moments when their behavior bothered me, and I had to put them in a cage when I had remote meetings with clients. Recently, I think they have calmed down and there are not many situations where their behavior interferes with my concentration.
One thing that really annoyed me was that one of the two cats chewed off the cable. While I was at work, the cat was sitting quietly next to the PC and after a while I looked over and saw that it had quietly and noiselessly chewed on the cable. When I noticed it, it had been chewed off and was no longer usable. Since then, I try to cover cables in places where cats might chew on them.

Having cats in our daily lives makes us very happy, and there are many moments when we are healed. Not only when they were kittens, but even when they are grown up, they are still as cute as ever, and watching them sleeping or basking in the sun on the windowsill naturally brings a smile to my face.
Interacting with pets decreases the stress hormone cortisol by secreting oxytocin, which plays a role in increasing mental stability and relaxation, and observing pets’ relaxed behavior has the effect of relieving brain fatigue and reducing stress.

In fact, just three months ago, a kitty kitten arrived at our home. Now I am working remotely with two black cats and a kijitora, and we are in a bit of a mess.
